But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. – Matthew 6:33

Did you seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness first today?  

If not, what was more important than that today for you?  If you knew that you could hear from God today, that He would impart His wisdom to you and meet with you, would you go to Him?  What would be more important than that?  What if it required you to walk a mile or five miles?  Would you do it?  How far would be too far to go to pursue Him?

Examine your daily life and determine what is keeping you from purposely setting aside time and effort to study and pray.  Is it external or internal?  Are you willing to set aside something in your life to make time?  Are you willing to confront what is causing your absence of desire?

1 Peter 5: 8 says, Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  While we are deciding to set aside time or determining if we can examine ourself, our enemy does not stop.  He is anxiously waiting for the opportunity to attack and he is moving all the pieces around you in your life to trap you.  If you do not have God's protection, wisdom, and guidance he will devour you.

Tony Dungy says, “Dedicating time to the priorities that God has entrusted to you may not seem significant right now, but to someone who needs you, it could make all the difference in his or her life – and in yours.”  Who in your life needs you to stay close to God?  Will you set aside time or confront yourself for them?

The things discussed in this verse are food, water, and clothing.  These things will be given to you and are of very little worth by comparison to what you will gain by seeking God’s kingdom and His righteousness.  Pursue God and don’t worry about things.  Worry about why you aren’t pursuing God.
