Revelation 20:4-6

4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Matthew 19:28 indicates to us that the apostles will sit as judges over the 12 tribes of Israel.  Revelation 2:26 and 5:10 tell us that saints will have authority over nations and followers of the Lamb will reign on the earth.  Those who do not follow the world or worship the world nor are marked by the world will live and reign with Christ for a thousand years.  All the other dead will not live until the thousand years has passed.  There is also an obvious resurrection for those who had been martyred for Jesus in this tribulation time.  They are now alive and living with Christ with the saints.
The rest of the dead are the unbelieving humanity.  They will not be resurrected until the judgment.
So, what is this thousand years like?
Isaiah 11:1-9 -
1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.  2 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.  3 His delight is in the fear of the Lord, and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears; 4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.  Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, and faithfulness the belt of His waist.  “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.  7 The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.  8 The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.  They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Isaiah 35 is entitled “The Future Glory of Zion” – Reading 3-7 and 9-10,
3 Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.  4 Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you.”  Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.  6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.  7 The parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water; in the habitation of jackals, where each lay, There shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

9 No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; it shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there, 10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Isaiah 65:17-25 –
17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.  18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, and her people a joy.  19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in My people; the voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, nor the voice of crying.  20 “No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; for the child shall die one hundred years old, but the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed.  21 They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.  22 They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people, and My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.  23 They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth children for trouble; for they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.
24 “It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear.  25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. they shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,” says the Lord.
Jeremiah 31:12-14 –
12 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, streaming to the goodness of the Lord—for wheat and new wine and oil, for the young of the flock and the herd; their souls shall be like a well-watered garden, and they shall sorrow no more at all.  13 “Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old, together; for I will turn their mourning to joy, will comfort them, and make them rejoice rather than sorrow.  14 I will satiate the soul of the priests with abundance, and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the Lord.”
These are just a few of the prophesies regarding this reign of Jesus.  Some attributes are:
  • It is a blessed and fruitful land.
  • Animals will live in harmony with one another and with humans.
  • Longevity will be increased.
  • Physical illnesses will be removed.
  • The souls of the people will be satisfied, they will rejoice and not be in sorrow.
